Magistracy Cavaliers - Betrayers of Thraxa?
« on: 19 November 2014, 22:18:46 »
The origins of the Magistracy Cavaliers lie with a "national guard" battalion (Clayborne's Commandos) that had been abandoned on Thraxa and gone native.  Realizing that the Magistracy didn't care about their defense, the Thraxans seduced them into becoming an official security force for their business concerns.  Ignored by the MCC, the Thraxans were able to increase the unit's size to two battalions.

When the Pirates War finally exploded in 3057, the situation came to the MCC's attention.  While the MCC was going to simply disband the unit, by force if necessary, Magestrix Emma Centrella brokered a deal that allowed the Commandos to become a full line regiment with the agreement that a battalion be permanently stationed on Thraxa full-time.

During the Victoria War, Naomi Centrella stripped the defenses of the Magistracy in order to show her neighbors how far her military had grown.   @p?  As a result many Canopian worlds were ripe for the plucking especially Thraxa and Vixen.  When they raised a stink Naomi and the Magistracy abandoned them entirely.

So what the hell happened that the Cavaliers would so easily abandon their homeworld?  (Naomi was simply stupid, completely stripping the Magistracy of its defenders is definitely not the way to show how much the MAF has improved.)

Not only Thraxa and Vixen, what to leave Balad II also included a factory not make any sense, unless there are problems of separatism in canopus not know

If there is a separatist movement is internal or course is managed and supported from outside? You can consolidate and hire mercs to perform the task have betrayed the Cavaliers?

I think the alliance with Liao would be controversial enough to have many separatists and dissident movements to grow in the Magistracy.

It is a possibility .., maybe politics almost merge the 2 houses is not liked by political movements canopians, one wonders if this was the maximum degree of expression of the separatist movement or is the start of something bigger style what happened to the Taurian Concordat or movement in another state eventually will merge style Fronc Reaches

The Magistracy is far more stable compared to the Concordat. It'll take larger events to set off a mass separatist movement.

Maybe, but have separated three systems, one including one with a factory gives to think if h is a growing movement of public opinion against the policy of the state canopian.

imagine if those 3 systems are beginning to accommodate settlers from other systems and re-occupy canopians worlds abandoned ruins of Canopus with that could assemble a proto-state cap between Canopus and Marian Hegemony

Didn't the cavaliers leave with Thraxa?

First, Thraxa and the other worlds didn't leave the Magistracy, they were told to get lost. (The Magestrix and the Magistracy basically told them that they were on their own, which, as far as those worlds were concerned, was business as usual.)

Second, as of FM3145, the Magistracy Cavaliers are still part of the MAF.

With the piracy issue, can they begin a colonization program?

look some of the worlds population have ruined of Canopus, Canopus has just politically abandoned because it could cost them in the state at the time of abandonment, a clear example is Kleinwelt a planet with mineral deposits 2 jumps Thraxa, inhabited by thousands of people to which you must add a few thousand more fugitive slaves Marian hegemony, and contr must also fairly close to the Marian Hegemony and may also be interested in annexing or visit looking for runaway slaves

But Canopus can come back in whenever they choose to. Not a wise choice for someone to go occupy those worlds and then lose them again.

Thought they were ruined from the end of the Star League when the Magistracy's economy collapsed and had to abandon them?

The Magistracy worlds were abandoned because they were unable to sustain themselves either economically or technologically (usually due to the failure of their terraforming equipment) after the fall of the Star League.

There are worlds of ruins that if may have had problems terraforming although isp3 mention that several abandoned by Canopus worlds maintained a population of several thousand inhabitants from the life of Canopus and making subsistence agriculture and livestock trading with occasional travelers or even smaller mines like that even exists in Kleinwelt, as he says arcangel some were shelved Monra and  Coopertown type because it was cheap to maintain navigation routes and equipment

Maybe it's just me but the answer to this seems fairly obvious: becoming a line regiment is what happened. There's a half-century between their being made a part of the MAF and their redeployment in the Victoria War. In the interim, clearly, the proportion of native Thraxans in the unit waned to the point that they stopped being tied to Thraxa.

There is a vast difference between obeying orders to temporarily leave one's homeworld undefended and obeying orders to permanently abandoning one's homeworld simply because they were vocally unhappy with the current leadership especially after it has sustained heavy losses due to the initial orders.

But my point is that by the time that they received those orders, arguably, it wasn't their homeworld, at least not for the majority of the Cavaliers; it was just their baseworld. So it wasn't abandonment, in their minds. It was just following orders.
