A Clan PWS question
« on: 26 December 2015, 10:50:09 »
We've seen that missiles as a weapon can be devastating but with more dropships being liberally slathered in AMS systems in the modern era their use against them is somewhat limited.

This is why you're seeing most IS Pocket Warships adopting sub-capital cannons and lasers whilst missiles support them, not be the main punch.  So why do folks think the Clan's have not adopted them? Do they perhaps not see a tactical need for sub capital lasers and cannons? I doubt there's a tech block stopping them.

Different roles I'd think. The IS designs Pocket WarShips in order to replace WarShips, and to fight WarShips, so they need the longer-range guns in order to fight WarShips at similar ranges.

Clan DropShips however, are designed to escort their WarShips. They don't have many, but they do still have some, and the Clans need their Pocket WarShips to deal with things like fighter swarms and small craft. They can rely on their WarShips to fight other WarShips and larger DropShips. What they need are escorts, especially the older Star League designs, that can deal with the smaller foes.

Though admittedly, this might leave the Clans rather stretched out in a Naval capacity. Their WarShips fleets aren't that big. It could be interesting to see how Clan and IS DropShip fleets match up without WarShips.

When TRO 3085 and Prototypes were written the Clans did not have access to SCCs and SCLs.

Also role. The Aesir and Vanir are AA platforms.

It would be nice to see some Clan PWS. Im sure they would be making some of them soon, to help out the fleets.
