No, I won't up the armor any. :P Though my ego wonders if anybody can remember where this design actually came from...

The ambitions of Stephan Amaris knew no bounds. Even after taking the Hegemony, he would always crave more power. His earliest recovered diaries indicated that after defeating the SLDF, he expected to engage in a brief period of reconstruction before moving against the House Lords who failed to submit. House Davion, due to the Davion Prince's well known friendship with First Lord Cameron, was usually cited as the initial target of this campaign. And to do so, he would greater and greater military strength, particularly a large and powerful navy if he was to truly dominate the Inner Sphere.
The Groznyy was originally intended to be a major component of this new navy, designed to serve as a screening vessel for the Amaris class Battleships that would serve as its core. Designed and built at the Kresters Ship Construction Yards at Yorii, this "Heavy Frigate" (in a practical sense closer to a Heavy Cruiser or even a Battlecruiser) was planned out as a heavily armed gunship, able to fight effectively at range with its batteries of Heavy naval PPCs, augmented further at close range by heavy naval cannons. This exceptional armament was suplemented with a respectable complement of supporting craft, including a wing of fighters, numerous assault boats, and an integral complement of attack dropships.
The only significant weak point in the design was its armored skin. Already rather thin to begin with, this was further compromised by the removal of the original planned Ferro Aluminium armor in favor of standard plate, a design choice attributed to continued sabotage and guerilla efforts that made more advanced armor scarce.
Though the keel of the RWS Groznyy and eleven sister ships was laid as early as 2769, sabotage, corruption, and the diversion of resources to more "immediately critical" defense projects slowed construction to a crawl, and even stopped it completely for as long as a year at a time. 2774 and the start of 2775 saw an abrupt burst in construction activity as SLDF forces moved in range to strike Yorii directly. These rushed efforts saw RWS Groznyy mostly completed and commissioned into service by January of 2775 and two other vessels nearing completion when the League's XXXVI Corps invaded Yorii.
With no SDS system and only a handful of other ships to provide support, the Groznyy engaged the SLDF fleet in a running firefight, evading the battleship squadrons that sought to box her in and overwhelm her while driving off any escort vessels that attempted to pursue as she ran for the jump point. The Grozny was able to keep up this pace, rarely slowing below maximum acceleration, for hours. In the process she managed to destroy a Corvette as well as disable a Frigate that had attempted to pursue. Ultimately, though, this punishing run also proved the Groznyy's undoing, when a catastrophic failure in the engineering compartment, caused by shoddy jerry rigging of the partially unfinished vessel's fuel transfer system, crippled the main drive. Dead in space, the ship offered no resistance when boarded by SLDF marines.
The SLDF was able to quickly repair the Groznyy using parts from her incomplete sister ships and press the vessel into service. The now SLS Groznyy served ably for the rest of the war, participating in the battles of Epsilon Eridani (destroying a pair of M-5 Caspars), and Graham IV, where the ship stayed in the battle line for the duration despite suffering a glancing hit from a fifty kiloton anti-shipping warhead. The significant damage sustained at Graham IV would keep the Groznyy out of action for a couple months, but she was repaired in time to join the final assault against Terra. On 9 September, 2776, the Groznyy jumped into trans-Neptunian space as part of a ten ship probe of the Terran System's defenses, suffering light damage during the ensuing battle of Eris. Four months later, the Groznyy returned to the Terran System alongside the rest of the SLDF fleet for the world's final liberation. During the run insystem, the Groznyy served as part of the inner defensive ring of the Zenith fleet, and, as at Graham IV, the ship continuously kept pace with the battle despite withering fire and serious damage, claiming kills on two M-5s that had broken through the outer defense lines, as well as dozens of smaller drones.
With the Caspar threat eliminated and Terran Space secure, the Captain and crew of the Groznyy were quick to request new assignments for their battered vessel. Citing the ship's severe damage, their commanding officers in the Twelfth Fleet ordered the vessel to a high orbit position out of reach of the planetary SDS batteries as a "reserve element". Shortly after that, the Groznyy was ordered back to the Zenith point to rendevous with a Newgrange for much needed repairs, and from there, patrol duties across the battered Hegemony. Though the fighting on Terra would continue for nearly three more years, for the Groznyy, the war was over. Following the victory of the SLDF against Amaris, the Groznyy (known affectionately by her crew and the high command as the Glass Lion) remained in service until 2782, when she was deactivated as part of an effort to reduce the operating costs of the SLDF. There are no further records mentioning the Groznyy after this point, and her final fate remains unknown.
Lyran forces claimed control of the shipyards over Yorii when they annexed the world in the mid 2780s, and with those yards they inherited the bones of the eleven unfinished Groznyy class Frigates. Having already been heavily scavenged, first by the SLDF and later the locals, these hulls had been reduced to barely more than bare jump cores and some structural members, however Commonwealth forces briefly considered resuming construction of the ships, though the destruction of the yards and the Combine's conquest of the planet rendered any such discussion pointless.
