From that, though, you'll note he does talk about the texture of the food itself when you're eating it, which goes a long way towards palatability.  Yes, I could see Elementals eating stuff like this while they're in their suits, but I don't believe that it could be their regular meals when they're not in the field.

Based on Steve's review, I'd guess around 100 calories per tube.  He said they usually have about one per hour on 12-hour missions.

Cholach and Shipeley Wheat are two of the clan grains, there's local fruits and meats as well as vegetables and protein caffeinated powders mixed in various flavors dispensed in vacuumed pouches, probably with attached heating element.

Like DipNSticks... Pouch and Edible stick?

All in a to-go bag like pouch.

Tear off top, has main course pouch, water pouch, electrolyte powder / coffee stimulate mini-tube pouch, sweetener, spice pack (salt, pepper, seasonings) and maybe a mixed cereal bar-cracker for carbo.

Inner Sphere is just the same, but with local grains, fruits and meats.

Looking in AToW, it appears the only rations available are Tech Level C.  Obviously, there are such things available at both lower and higher Tech Levels.  Below is my swag at what those would be.  Of note, until you get to Tech Level D, water is a completely separate requirement, and comes in at about 2 kg (2 liters) per day.  AToW doesn't say these are daily rations (vice per meal), but that's my assumption.

C Rats  C/A-A-A/A    2   1 kg Standard AToW Rations.  Will keep for 10 years, 20 if in cold storage.  Mercenaries prefer these due to cost.
D Rats  D/A-B-B/A    5   1 kg Generally available to House militaries.  Good for 25 years, 50 in cold storage.  Reduce water requirements to 1.75 kg per day.
E Rats  E/B-D-C/A   10   1 kg Star League Rations.  Still good after all these years!  And reduce water requirements to 1.5 kg per day.
F Rats  F/X-X-D/A   20   1 kg Clan Rations.  Also reduce water requirements to 1.25 kg per day.  Not even Elementals like this pasty concoction.

where would real world C-rations fall on this? or the MCI?

also interestingly, the "standard rations" that show up in the fiction largely has been C-ration/MCI style canned meal kits, complete with complaints about the amount of fat to scraped off the main entree items and the jokes about them being left over from previous wars decades before. though there there may be more variety as a result of the cultural stuff of the successor states. in Blood legacy for example, the rations included the classic (inedible) beef stew or pork and beans, but also "Chicken in naranji sauce with noodles", which honestly sounds like something that might come from a Combine or Capellan ration kit. (naranji is apparently a future citrus type, so the closest IRl equivalent might be orange chicken over lo mein?)

per sarna, it's a bioengineered grain though some of the fiction has it being used to make a semisolid sweet topping (peanut butter and quillar shows up in the warrior series for example, as one of the box lunches comstar provides to the wedding parties during the pre-wedding tourist parts)

apparently it's similar to corn so some sort of cornmeal cracker might be the closest analog.

After all with the known Battletech space there must be #of different Ration packs supplied by different suppliers.   Some good, other near junk...
