Damocles Seeker Star: An Eridani Light Horse Remnant
« on: 21 December 2020, 12:35:20 »
One of my favorite BT computer games is MechWarrior 3, and even though the canon version of the story has the Damocles commando teams coming from various units of the BULLDOG and SERPENT Task Forces I've never been able to shake the backstory from the game's materials, which had them coming from the Eridani Light Horse.  So that got me to thinking: what if the Damocles commandos really did come from the Light Horse?  And what if they eventually ended up as Goliath Scorpion bondsmen, then abtakha?  What might that look like?  And could I build it with the minis I'm getting from the Clan Invasion Kickstarter?

Without further ado I give you:

Quote
Damocles Seeker Star
Parent Unit: Independent
Faction: Clan Goliath Scorpion

Star Commander Connor (Sinclair)- Bushwacker IIC
MechWarrior Epona (Rhi)- Shadow Cat
MechWarrior Dominic (Paine)- Summoner/Thor
MechWarrior Alan (Matilla)- Kodiak

Assembled shortly after the founding of the Escorpion Imperio in 3080, Damocles Seeker Star was dispatched on a mission from saKhan Connor Rood to locate surviving personnel or equipment caches of the Eridani Light Horse in the Inner Sphere and attempt to recover them for the Imperio. Secondary objectives were investigating rumored Star League caches in the Near Periphery and purchasing equipment needed by the Imperio as it sought to start its' own manufacturing base. Although Rood's instructions contained no explicit references to mercenary work, they stated that he "expect[ed] the Star will use your unique skills and backgrounds to obtain the resources needed to support your quest."  And while peace may have been breaking out across the Inner Sphere, there were still many smoldering conflicts in the Periphery where the support of a Star's worth of Clan technology 'Mechs could command quite a price in C-Bills or vital technology...

The above I'm fairly certain of, but not 100% convinced.  The Bushwacker, Shadow Cat, and Thor were three of my favorite 'Mechs from MW3, and all are included in the packs I'm getting from the Kickstarter.  For Alan Matilla, who pilots a Sunder during the game, I wanted to give him a big, mean assault 'Mech, but not necessarily an Omni since I see this as more of a second-line force. The Kodiak fits the bill, and is even noted as being used by CGS in the fluff.  As for the the original members and age issues, I'm handwaving to say they all were assigned to the ELS detachment on Strana Mechty, survived the destruction of the Eridani Lancers, and were young warriors in 3060 and thus in their 40s or early 50s by 3080.

Something I can't quite decide on is what the fifth point should be. I'm getting a Horned Owl/Peregrine as part of the Kickstarter, which is noted as being a CGS 'Mech, but I'm not sure who should pilot it.  A fifth ex-Light Horse MechWarrior? A Clan warrior originally assigned to helping the four Light Horse warriors assimilate?  A notional daughter of two of the original Damocles members, raised as a freeborn warrior?  Or do I just sidestep the issue and paint up a Point of Elementals to finish the star?

I'd welcome any comments on that, or feedback on the original concept.

Interesting idea I'd go with a diehard Goliath Scorpion Seeker who is their "guide" or even a pair of vehicles with conventional infantry support who help them collect and secure stuff it would also fit with the ELH combined arms
My three main Alternate Timeline with Thanks fan-fiction threads are in the links below. I'm always open to suggestions or additions to be incorporated so if you feel you wish to add something feel free. There's non-canon units, equipment, people, events, erm... Solar Systems spread throughout so please enjoy

Of those two, I'd be more likely to go with the diehard seeker in a Peregrine, since I'm trying to stick with models I'm getting from the Clan Kickstarter. I do like the idea of a token hardcore Clanner having to put up with these four adopted Spheroids who are clearly backsliding appallingly into their old mercenary ways.
