Hi all,
prepping for our upcoming game on the River Comm Center Map we have come across a rule question we were not sure how to resolve, because we found apparent conflicting rulings.
Assuming the Target Standing on a Level 3 Wall and the Attacker being in a Level 0 clear space adjacent to the Target:
During a "Death from Above" Attack, what is the LOS Level of the Attacker in the Weapon Attack Phase?
MechManual, 6th Printing, Page 37 reads:
"The attacker is in the air above its hex. Its LOS level is thus two, plus the level of either the target’s hex or the attacker’s hex (whichever is higher)."
I understand this to mean that in the example above the attacker is "standing" in the air at Level 3, placing their LOS level at 5.
The "A Game of Armored Combat" PDF I downloaded during the Kickstarter page 27 reads:
"For purposes of determining LOS, the attacker is considered to be in the air above its hex, standing two levels higher than either the target's hex or the level of the hex the attacker occupies, whichever is higher."
I understand this to mean that in the example above, the attacker is "standing" in the air at Level 5, placing their LOS level at 7.
Both of these rules seem to be mutually exclusive. Which should be considered the right one?
Personally I tend to favor the AGoAC one, since it is most consistent with the Attacker needing enough Jump MP to clear Level 5 to execute the DFA anyway.
We are also confused by the example Box on Page 27 of AGoAC which reads:
"During the Weapon Attack Phase, the Griffin is considered to be in Hex C, as though it were standing on a Level 3 hill (the target hex’s level +2). (...) Other ’Mechs on the map can check for LOS and fire as though the Griffin were in Hex C with an LOS height of Level 4."
If the Griffin is considered to be standing on a Level 3 Hill, why can others fire on the Griffin as if it had an LOS height of Level 4 rather than Level 5?
Is this just a typo?
