« on: 09 February 2024, 19:19:48 »
So i was going to make my unit only 8 lances and say it was a short company then added support and so now it has become a short battalion so please see my mech assets and should i add 1 lance or go to the full 12 lances and round it out if so what would make sense as my unit was designed around a bigger force for an RPG campaign my unit if for defences and attacking fixed units i also have some infantry and tanks for base support but the mechs are were we all know were it matters

so do i just gone 1 lance if so what or an extra companies worth if so what do the community think would be good i am open to all ideas as this game is going to happen soon so i finalyn need to get my act in gear

A battalion is typically three companies of three lances each, possibly with a command lance (general hint, command units tend to be two steps down from the main force; a regiment might have a command company, it's uncommon for a company to have a command 'Mech, etc.)

So you need only look at adding one, or at most two, lances unless you want to have something bigger than usual. Which, if your budget can afford it, go for it! Lots of good minis available at good prices.

Looking at what you have, it's indeed high end, and well suited to knocking down walls. You're very light on recon capability, but may not be worried about that; what you are light on, and which could be useful, is fire support. Yes, you've got two Dervishes and two Salamanders, but they're not together, and sometimes it can be really fun to drop a whole bunch of LRMs on someone at the same time. So, if it were me,

- I'd pull the two Salamanders out into a new Lance 9. Put a fast heavy (5/8 or so) into Lance 6, and a brawling heavy into Lance 8.
- I'd also pull the two Dervishes out of Lance 5 into a new Lance 10.

Lance 9 then gets filled in with Longbows or Archers, depending on availability, or any other heavy/assault with at least 30 LRM tubes. This is your gun line, this drops the steel rain so the enemy fights in the dark.

Lance 10 gets Griffins and/or Shadow Hawks, if the versions with LRM-20s are available. You've then got a fast, jump-capable lance which can support your faster units, or can plug a gap before the enemy can properly exploit it.

And invest in cheap, fast scout vehicles. Savannah Masters are ideal for prowling your flanks on the lookout for unexpected visitors, or VTOLs, or cheap fast hovers.

Just my two M-bills :)

Worktroll has the rigth of it, what that force could use is some more recon and fire support.  I'm a big fan of The Axman as a fire Support mech, as the hatchet actually gives it some point-blank teeth if they try to close with your fire-support lance while still bringing 30 LRMs to the party.  Heck include a couple of units with TAG gear and those two new lances would work VERY well togeather.

so to make things make a bit more sense then remove the Starslayer and add  Salamander PPR-5T and move the Starslayer to the 8th lance keeps speeds better ,  so any ideas on for the 9th lance what the Fed Com used as indirect firepower most commonly or at least 3 of those an maybe on CC mech can fit ?

Dervish-DV-8D    veteran
   Dervish-DV-8D    veteran
   Bushwacker- BSW-1L    veteran
Starslayer- STY-3D    veteran   so swap Salamander PPR-5T
