Natural selection was one of the first two battletech novels I read, and at the time I was quite enamored with the Red Corsair's battlemaster.

I mean, I get it:  It can alpha strike and jump with three Clan ER PPCs and a targeting computer.  That it has an XL engine only slightly reduces the level of cheese.  But sometimes, canon produces munchkiness on close to this level, too.
