Quickdraw Armor Package challenge
« on: 11 May 2024, 01:50:07 »
Howdy all.  Was fooling around with mechs, as we do, and got to thinking that while the 55 ton 5/8/5 might be the most efficient for total tonnage, the quickdraw does have 1 advantage: more maximum armor.  So whats everyone's take on a quickdraw with 200 armor?  My sample below swaps the LRM10 for a rocket launcher 10 to keep the visual (I put it on the wrong side, oops), but uses those 5.5 tons to add 2 more heat sinks and armor up to 200.  Id love to see other people's take on a 3025 quickdraw that justifies its existence over the 5/8/5 55 ton designs.

5/8/0 60-tonners can mount the same equipment payload as a 55-tonner but with an additional ton of max armor. So anything not mounting jump jets can be used as a base.
Guns may be a right, but kneecaps are a privilege.

An AC/20 will fit, if you leave off the jump jets... ;)

My take is a "what could have been" of the 5A variant, pulling both the LRMs and the rear lasers for armour, more forward facing lasers and one extra heat sink. I imagine that in universe someone influencial on the project insisted that the rear lasers had to had to stay:

The rear lasers are a tricky one for sure, and the design is definitely better off without them.  I think your dropping of the rear lasers and adding a collection of small lasers is a good idea, heck I would even go as far as turning the added LT medium laser to more small lasers.  5 small lasers in place of the LRM10, 2 arm mounted mediums, and the CT SRM4 is quite a bit of backstabbing, plus maximum armor!
