UrbanMech LAM (Design Challenge? Theory?)
« on: 25 May 2024, 16:01:09 »
So it’s out in Plastic. We know the stats for AS (the UM-A07 and the S-UM-1XLA) BUT we don’t have the actual TW stats.

So whatcha got?

Will the 35 ton urbies there match the AS card?

Right, bit of a necro-post here, but it seemed the most appropriate since this is a response to the original post.

I found the link to this post in the Upcoming Releases XXIX thread, and since I like LAMs, I figured I'd take a shot at recreating the UrbanMech LAM. Now that I've finally gotten around to it, here are my results. I was keeping in mind the need to match the Alpha Strike Cards included in the salvage box, and I think I've got it all figured out - my variants should, barring any miscalulations in MML v0.50, have the same stats as depicted on the AS cards. The one thing to note is that LAMs require all four arm actuators, so I included them to remain rules legal, even though the Urbie LAM clearly has no lower arm actuators. I figure it's easy enough to simply disregard it as a minor wrinkle caused by the construction rules - they can simply be considered placeholders for additional conversion equipment if necessary, and the hyper-extending actuators quirk can be used to make the arms function as they normally would.

To start us off, here's the UM-A07 - it's actually rules legal in the Succession Wars as well as the later eras marked on the original AS card, in case you want to include it in games from an earlier era.

Next up is the S-UM-1XLA variant. Based on several factors - the use of Angel ECM and the intro period being the Jihad - this was clearly a Word of Blake variant. As such, I immediately figured out that it was going to be similar to the other Word of Blake LAMs, making use of a mixed tech base to make the platform more capable than it otherwise could be.

So, there you have it! Both of the Urbie LAMs in standard BattleTech format, and both of them match their AS interpretations when converted in MML, so they should be correct. I've also attached the text files to my post so you can download them for yourselves!
