Hey community,

Help me understand the practical application of using these two armors in game.  Just let me know if I've got this right, or if I've got it wrong, how.  If you can cite authority, cool, if not, still helpful to hear peoples thoughts.

1.  Hardened Armor.
When taking damage, each bubble can take two regular points of damage.  This can be simulated by putting a slash through the armor bubble, and then another slash making an X.  So when you are hit by an IS medium pulse laser, hardened armor only crosses off 3 bubbles.  Hit by a Gauss rifle:  cross off 7 and a half bubbles.  Hit by a SRM round?  cross off a single bubble.  You need to take 20 bubbles of damage to force a PSR (which is 40 regular damage!).  Crits take a -2 modifier to the roll, so limbs can no longer be blown off by rolling a 12.

2. Ferro-Lamellor.
When taking damage, this armor reduces incoming damage by 20%.  First point of any damage is negated, up to 5 points.  So when you get hit by the classic IS Medium Laser, you take 4 points damage.  Gauss Rifle would be 12 points damage (1 point reduction for every 5 points).  LBX pellets would do....no damage.  SRMS would do...1 damage? IS Medium pulse lasers would do...4 damage?  Clan medium pulse lasers would do...5 damage?  There is also a crit reduction here.  Is it also a -2 modifier?

At work away from my resources, so thanks for any clarification.  I think I understand Hardened, but I know errata can change the ways rules are applied.  Ferro-Lam I've never played a game of classic with it in use.

Cheers!

For clarification, Through Armor Criticals or Criticals that are from Structure Hits that also took off Hardened Armor have the reduced Crit Chance.  If a Hit nails Structure without touching Armor, then the Crit Chance is not reduced.

Other than that, spot on.  There are a couple exceptions in Acid-X SRMs and ReEngineered Lasers that ignore that reduction, as well as AP/Tandem Charge rounds doing full Damage without being able to do their normal TAC.

No Crit Roll reduction, it just denies AP and Tandem-Charge Weapons from getting a TAC without rolling a '2'.

The other thing to be aware of IS the pilot of a battlemech will not take damage from a 1 point hit to the head, be it LBX or the single LRM from 6 LRMs to hit.  Or say something like BA's King Davids.

Ok, last question:

Hardened Armor vs. 1 point hits.  Say an LRM or an LBX pellet hits something.  It does 1/2 point of damage.  Can 1/2 point crit?  Can 1/2 point injure the pilot on a head hit?
