Does anyone remember Intelligence Agency that Victor Steiner-Davion set up during the Dark Age Era/Early Republic era?  I remembered Galvin Marik(-Davion) was part of it , I thought it was named after FedCom agent, Curaitis .

Does anyone remember Intelligence Agency that Victor Steiner-Davion set up during the Dark Age Era/Early Republic era?  I remembered Galvin Marik(-Davion) was part of it , I thought it was named after FedCom agent, Curaitis .

The Curaitis Organization is a pro-FedSuns cabal, and indeed Gavin Marik-Davion is a major player if not the head of it. However, I believe you are thinking of the collection of agents and spies that Victor cultivated that has no formal organizational name but uses the Illuminati pyramid as a symbol.

From Sword of Sedition:

Quote
Julian rubbed at the side of his face. He wondered ifhis hair was beginning to singe. “I thought Victor helped uncover the Senate cabal? Wasn’t that why he was killed?”

“He did. It was, we believe.” Levin blew out a frustrated breath. “But how he went about it makes it difficult for The Republic to maintain the high ground in our situation with the Senate. Documents in my possession, and in the hands of others, I’m afraid, make it clear that Victor kept ties to some ex-intelligence operatives after the Jihad, for starters. ROM agents whom he might have encouraged to return to ComStar. Even worse, he essentially supported one of the plagues of The Republic; an organization of spies-for-hire and information brokers who hide behind the illuminati pyramid.”

Aren't they the successor of the organization mentioned in the Source book Interstellar Expeditions? The one where the author joked "The Iluminati are just a professional network with a sense of humor" Or is that different? I know there is also the FSS Consulting group which was made up of former intelligence operatives from SAFE, Comstar ROM and Word of Blake ROM who had Victor as one of their clients.

Likely not even a successor, but the same thing. The note you are talking about is signed "OF", Ogden Frost is one of the founders of the Frost, Singh, and Shermarké Consulting Group. All of these were tied together to IE and Republic hunting down WoB hold outs, but Victor made and maintained connections he could use later.

Not sure why it would be labeled a plague outside of the Republic's need to be controlling.  Levin is really naive if he did not think anyone else on the Paladin council did not maintain a network of informants.  Granted, some used them for politicking like Kessel.

Currently painting up a platoon of Tortoise II Battle Armor. Going to base 'em tonight.

I really like using a lot of the Republic BA, but the Tortoise II is one that continually slips my mind. I'm going to have to make it a point to take it out for some games.

Naw, nothing official, but DeathrayDesigns has some very similar looking stuff they call Hingebacks.

A thing I always wanted to ask: when Levin was elected and when he enacted the Fortress protocols he got annonymous messages filled with threats like "Don't accept the election to Exarch or we will make you look like Amaris" in the council chamber. Was it ever explained or hinted WHO send those messages? The systerm was supposedly only for Paladins so was it another Paladin?

My guesstimate is it was Thaddeus Marik, who had already lost faith in the Republic by that point as he admitted in Wolf Hunters and To Ride the Chimera. But no it's never been confirmed who was doing it.

So looking at the thread title, I have to ask: What are our options in terms of canon formations where we can keep playing with pretty RAF toys?

Let's leave the Clans on Terra off of this for now, we just don't know anything useful about them until at least IKEO comes out.

So, going from memory, there is:

Federated Suns: Dawn Guard, Swordsworn

Capellan Confederation: None, barring salvage.

Free Worlds League: Spirit Cats, Augustine Arquebusiers, Covenant Guards(maybe?)

Lyran Commonwealth: Stormhammers(?)

Draconis Combine: Dragon's Fury (destroyed?)

Mercenary: Northwind Highlanders, Seychelle's Stonehearts, minor units

Am I missing anyone?

More mercs than that, but you have to dig into MWDA novels some.  I would also include Hansen's Roughriders, the survivors would have come away from Terra with most survivable gear.

You also have Bannson's survivors out in Hinterland under the new Red Duke.

Can't say i think of Swordsworn, Spirit Cats, Stormhammers, etc. and the other formations that caused the fracturing in the first place as "Republic." If we do, then you include stuff like Steel Wolves.

The list is more:
Dawn Guard (RAF who were sent by stone)
1st Arquebusiers (pulled in a lot of RAF from survivors of 3149-3150)
Northwind Highlanders (absorbed XII Hastati)
Seychelle's Stonehearts

*cough*
The Cheetahs

There's also some unnacounted for units. 1 or 2 Fides formations, 2 Triarii, Second Hastati.

The factional forces did start off with RAF gear which was the question, thought what remains is older gear.

Steel Wolves Corp was a small-time armor-only merc unit that was founded by Star Captain Nikola Demos after Anastasia nuked the Steel Wolves in forming her Wolf Hunters/Operation Appleseed bid.

Not to be confused with the Steel Wolves Mercenary Cluster, which is most of the BattleMechs, Battle Armor, and Aerospace of the Steel Wolves who abandoned Anastasia Kerensky when she formed the Wolf Hunters and kept trying to play Clan, but when Clan Wolf proper showed up, they tried to rejoin and kept getting destroyed and declared dezgra, so then Star Colonel Xera said "screw it" and declared them merc.

Not to be confused with the Wolfkin Keshik Steel Wolves, who are about a Trinary in strength and broke off from Xera's Steel Wolves after their leader tried to dishonorably kill Anastasia Kerensky.

Anastasia Kerensky really should have just taken the Steel Wolves back to Clan Wolf space, and trialed for a galaxy commander position. She certainly would have won the trial.

...huh?

I think he meant that there were two separate units that may have different paint jobs with the same name.

When the original Steel Wolves (Sub-Faction) broke up,  joined or they became a bunch of different mercenary units. Two of them kept the actual name Steel Wolves itself but one of them added "Corp "behind the name.  It was little confusing since you had the Steel Wolves Corp (Merc unit) lead by Colonel Nikola Demos and Galaxy Commander Xera's Steel Wolves whom essentially all that remains of the original sub-factionbecame eventually mercenary unit as well.

Both Steel Wolves believe units remains a mercenary unit after the Trial of Terra.

You could add Wolf's Dragoons to the merc list, as they got their choice of salvage at Terra, and I'd imagine some RAF gear would have been scooped up to be used. At least until they get the ClanTech factories up and running on 2nd Outreach.

Wanted to say Wolf's Dragoons as according to Redemption Rites they salvaged a lot of gear from Terra including Ares tripods which were gifted to the League. But they also have drones in their arsenal (only the Republic had those AFAIK) and I suspect they will be used to rebuild the Special Recon Group.Their other units haven't shown any RAF gear so far, Zeta Battlaion sounded more like a mix of Clan and IS/Clan Hybrids mechs. Even the battle armor was clan gear

Otherwise I would think the scattered remnants o f RASF units (Triari, Principes) that sought refuge in the Federated Suns would have taken their gear with them

In case of the Dragon's Fury: if these warriors survived the purge their gear might show up in the Legion of Vega or some Dieron Regulars

FedSuns has enough RAF material that it alters the RATs. Yeah, RATs are non-canon, but RATs are meant to give a force that feels like a faction's force. So it seems like FedSuns will pull in a lot of RAF gear

Regardinjg drones - I only know of the RotS using drones recently. I'm curious if they get spread out or just die off lore-wise

Looks like the Lich, Revenant, Celerity, and Zephyr all get widespread enough to make the Mercenaries MUL. None of the drone fighters survive, sadly.

It'll be interesting to see when/if we see an all-drone mercenary unit.
