Dazzle camo King Crab: My most complex paintjob so far.
« on: 29 August 2024, 02:32:26 »
I always wanted to paint a mech in dazzle camo. Since I am dumb as a rock, I thought it would be a good idea AND tried to do it myself, not realizing what I was getting myself into. Now, after taking several critical hits to my sanity, I can finally show the results of my work.

I vowed to myself I would never paint another mech in this scheme. I may be open to expand this to a lance/reinforced lance level with some plastic vehicles. I'm open to suggestions.

That, sir, is an incredible piece of work. Executed perfectly. How long did it take, and how did you do it?

That's glorious and truly worthy of the name
If you did all that by hand instead of masking, I'll be even more dazzled. Pun partially intended.

I’m blown away. That looks so sharp and detailed.

I’m not sure if I like the style or not; I’ve never heard of “dazzle camo” until you posted this; I keep scrolling the pictures and go back and forth, but your application is flawless.

This does make me think this is the scheme the ComGuard used during the Battle of Tukayyid to really throw off and intimidate the Clans.

Absolutely incredible. How long do you think it actually took?

I barely have time to paint nowadays, so I've spent months without touching this model. But I started working on it during may.

I used no masking or airbrush on this. I honestly wouldn't know how to make the tape tightly fit the geometry of the model.

I've toyed with the idea of a Caunter scheme for one of my Snord's Irregulars.  It would be a little easier than a Dazzle scheme you've done.

It was used by ships during WWII to throw off targeting solutions. The idea being that the angled lines made it harder to see the actual lines of the ship that would be used to figure out a ship’s course.

It really seems to work. In the pictures above, the King Crab starts to really blend with the (awesome!) terrain; it’s hard to tell where the Mech stops and the buildings start. Then, in the turntable pictures, it starts to play tricks on your eyes with what part you’re looking at.

I’ve come back to this thread several times to just pour over the pictures, 😆 it’s that interesting.

That is absolutely amazing and a true joy to look at!

Most impressive!

That’s pretty cool. (And I am jealous of your photo terrain setup!)

The new King Crab really has a nice table presence too.
