that is known for having great speed but weak armor, and it was found that the
'mech was not very effective for swarm tactics or raiding due to this
deficiency. As a result, the Fire Moths were either limited as BA carriers or
assigned to warriors who are older and lack bloodnames before they reach
solahma units; those warriors tend to be extremely aggressive.
When the Exiled Warden Wolves arrived in Arc-Royal in 3057, they brought with
them enough salvaged Fire Moths to create stars of them. But rather than do
that, the Exiled Wolves saw the Fire Moths as test beds for a new flagship
light Omnimech that has a similar speed profile, but could be far more flexible
in use, under their 'Project 300' rebuilding plan. After the Great Refusal,
Clan Wolf-in-Exile covertly approached Clan Ghost Bear about a covert
joint-project that would result in a significantly improved version of the Fire
Moth. The Ghost Bears liked the idea, and the ensuing joint-project produced a
30-ton Omnimech known as the 'Corgi', named after a mythical 'mech from 'The
Adventures of Clan Spaniel', a popular entertainment shows among the preteen
children of the Clans Merchant Castes. Essentially, the Corgi is a bigger, but
better version of the Fire Moth; as a result, in some Clan circles, it is
called Fire Moth Mk II.
Official production of the 'Corgi' began in 3063, in with the Ghost Bears
building their share in Dominion Facility Kappa-4 in Goito, while Clan
Wolf-in-Exile built theirs in WC Site 5 in Arc-Royal.
Capabilities:
Ten tons heavier than the original Fire Moth, the 'Corgi' retains its speed
profile as its progenitor due to its Type II 300 XL fusion engine, while
carrying the standard 10 double heat sinks, and managed to integrate MASC into
the heavier base chassis as well. The most significant improvement, however,
is its five tons of Ferro Fibrous armor; while not the maximum, this allows the
'Corgi' to withstand a bit more punishment, though utilizing its high speed is
still the best way to survive. Finally, the Corgi has a respectable seven
tons of pod space for weapons and equipment.
The Prime Configuration of the Corgi consists of five ER Medium Lasers, all
tied to a targeting computer, with a pair per arm and one on the right side
torso. Even with an additional double heat sink, this configuration is still
susceptible to overheating.
Configuration A of the Corgi is a striker, with an SRM-6 launcher on each side
torso, and a Heavy Medium Laser on each arm.
Configuration B features a more well-rounded set of weapons, with each arm
sporting an ER Medium Laser and a pair of Machine Guns, while another ER Medium
Laser is mounted on the right side torso. This configuration also has an
Active Probe that helps root out hidden enemies, and a TAG system for
designating artillery fire.
Configuration C is a long-range harraser, with an ER Large Laser on the right
arm and a pair of LRM-5 launchers on the left arm.
Configuration D is a fast sniper, with an ER PPC on the right side torso as its
main weapon. An ECM Suite also allows the 'mech to remain hidden while sniping.
Configuration E has a pair of ATM-3 launchers on the right side torso, with
enough ammo to fully utilize the ATM's flexibility. An ER Medium Laser on the
left arm was added as non-ammo backup.
Configuration F has three Medium Pulse Lasers and an Active Probe, making this
configuration ideal for hunter-killer roles.
Configuration G was inspired by Ghost Bear saKhan Aletha Kabrinski. An ER
Large Laser on its right side torso is its main long-range weapon, with paired
ER Small Lasers on each arm for close-range combat. An ECM Suite rounds out
the armaments.
Configuration H is another striker design, with three Heavy Medium Lasers tied
to a targeting computer and an SRM-4 launcher as its main weapons, while ECM
Suite would allow the 'mech to get close enough until its within weapons firing
range.
Battle History:
The Ghost Bears would first unleash the Corgis against the Crusader Clan Wolf
and Clan Hell's Horses after the Battle of Courchevel, in a series of
retributive campaigns against the two Clans. Both Clans were caught off guard
by the Corgis, as they often mistake them for the more fragile Fire Moths.
Deployment:
Initially, the Corgis were limited to only the toumans of the Ghost Bears and
Clan Wolf-in-Exile. The Corgis would soon see use in the Clan Diamond Shark's
touman, through trade, would also see surprising use in the Clan Nova Cat
touman as well.
Clan Hell's Horses would also acquire several Corgis through trade, and would
use them heavily during their invasion of the Clan Wolf space, much to Vladimir
Ward's chagrin.
