Good day. I'm reading the rules for Artillery Cannons in TacOps and I noticed they have the "F" designation, meaning they can make Flak attacks against VTOLs. The rules in TacOps state that they normally fire like direct ballistic weapons that do AoE damage. This leads me to believe against VTOLs, an artillery cannon targets the VTOL at the appropriate altitude, applies defender movement penalties, attacker movement penalties, and range penalties, then makes a shot with the -2 for Flak factored in.
This leads me to the problem, specifically in how artillery cannons do damage like artillery and how they can still scatter. TacOps states that for artillery, damage against a hex is applied vertically, with it being reduced by 10 for every height level above the target hex. Most artillery cannons do not have large AoEs like their full bore cousins, but FAE rounds give them AoE1-3 depending on their size.
My questions are as follows:
1) When using artillery cannons, do I follow the GATOR laid out in the example above, or do I use the rules for artillery Flak found on pg 154 of TacOps?
2) If I miss the VTOL, does the round now scatter at the same height level as the VTOL, does it scatter based off the underlying ground hex, or does it just miss entirely?
3) Do AoE rounds scatter vertically as well as horizontally?
