Espadas - Business End of the Sword
« on: 03 September 2011, 09:10:25 »
Never knew (or maybe forgot) about the existence of Gauszilla.  Thought it was a neat idea, but it just seemed to lack that special... something.  Having finally gotten around to reading the Wars of Reaving it finally hit me (like five targeting computer assisted headcappers).  Basically a modified Stone Rhino, which the Escorpións should have some experience with.

Overview:
"The Ultimate Dueling Machine" (paraphrased from an ancient Terran advertising
slogan)

Since their "merger" with Nueva Castile and Umayyad Caliphate some of the more
tradition minded warriors of Escorpión Imperio have taken up a longing for the
good old days.  Some have even gone so far as to revive the ancient practice of
subjecting onself to the sting of the goliath scorpion, rather than rely on
necrosia for their visions.  Needless to say this does not sit well with the
Clan leadership.

Forgoing indirect fire, using targeting computers to pick specific weak points,
and a strict preference to one-on-on duels are the hallmarks of this throwback
movement within the fledgling empire.  They wanted a machine that could do
this, and in stereotypical clan fashion, overdo it.  Thus was born the Espadas,
the Spanish word for swords.

Capabilities:
The centerpiece of this mech are the five direct fire weapons, all tied to a
targeting computer.  The impact of any two has the potential to knock a mech
from it's feet, and a single hit to the head by any of them will mission kill
almost any mech on the battlefield today.  Although an alpha strike will slow
this already ponderous machine it can remain on the battlefield even in the
unlikely event that it's gauss magazines run dry thanks to it's triple particle
projectile cannons.

Coupled with thick, albeit forward-biased armor, non-existant secondary
weapons, and a distressing lack of maneuverability this mech requires it's
starmates in order to have much of an impact once zellbrigen has been breached.
However, in the singular duels it was designed for it has few equals.

Variants:
A few warriors have attempted to address the maneuverability issue by dropping
the center torso particle projectile cannon in favor of jump jets.  While the
loss of raw damage potential somewhat reduces it's effectiveness in duels it
makes for a slightly more capable war machine.  These modifications commonly
include an active probe as well, a nod to the realities of degraza warfare.

"You and your puppet Kerensky ought to be pleased that I had a miserable time on that Davion tub coming here. Davion ships are as badly serviced as a Kurita brothel and as ugly as a Capellan whore, eh, gentlemen? Oh, but of course Lady Steiner wouldn't know about such things."
