David "CanisD" Briedis, creator of the infamous Iron Cheetah and good friend for almost 25 years, is gone. He passed away during surgery from a massive heart attack on Thursday, August 27, 2015. Dave was always a player, most often the leader, of our BattleTech games, back before HeavyMetal was even a consideration, and playtested and advised since that time. He was a great BattleTech player, an incredible designer, and a first-rate artist of mechanical designs. He did more with the original Windows Paint program than most people could do with PhotoShop. And he was absolutely the most knowledgeable person I have ever met concerning WWII and other era military ships, as well as so many other topics. I once used a small plastic part from a Yamato 1/720 scale model as an antenna array on my Ghost Ram custom 'Mech design. When Dave saw it, he stared, puzzled for a moment, then smiled and said "Yamato, right?" You just couldn't put anything past him.
Besides our personal loss, Dave was involved in many other projects, mostly involving art or gaming, and most of which I don't have information at hand about. His wit, knowledge, friendliness and just down-to-earth quality is hard to equal, and will be missed so much, by me and so many others. Despite many health problems, and being confined to a wheelchair for the last decade or so, he was one of the most optimistic and positive people I have ever known.
