Have you ever shown (formally) any of your portfolio to Ray? There may be room for some illustrations. I think the quality of your work has come very close to that caliber.

Heh, don't know how, but doing BattleTech art? How could I say no? ;D

I know I mentioned it before, if not on here. Ray Arrastia goes by Adrian Gideon on here, and is the BT Assistant Art Director (Brent Evans is his boss, but doesn't post nearly as much). Try PMing him, if you think you're up for making money.

Yeah, I'm definitely still working on making something suitably presentable, but I'm open to critique. Anything to help me improve my crap.

Well, I'm no professional so I can't really give a good critique. My own personal impression is that you've got a lot of good stuff with knowledge of all the basics (shading, human anatomy, proportion, perspective, etc), but that they don't feel done yet. Maybe push some illustrations to full completion (past what would normally be useful to practice a particular technique)? Then again, I don't know enough to really judge.

A relative stranger's voice added to the mix here.  Not everyone is encouraged to at least make a presentation of their art.  Take that as a favorable sign and go for it.

Though the destination does have to look good, it's still art, and therefore, entirely about the journey.  You will learn what you need to complete your art along the way.

Your thread is also a good one to peruse.   O0

And just as I start feeling competent, I go ahead and make a rookie mistake like this:

Damned chest strap looks like a weird rifle sling. Gonna have to fix that.

Eh. I'm not really seeing it, thought I don't know my web-gear.

Had another thought. Something that should go into your portfolio at some point is something representative of the way you convey action and emotion as well as realism. People under duress, celebrating, contemplative, etc.

Bedwyr~ Look closely at the " scope ", the chest strap " ends " there, hence weird looking rifle sling.

Falchion~ Just fix the sling as if it was shortened around elbow-bicep area and attach to either side of the hilt/handle/stock.

Huh, at first I thought you meant the crisscrossed ink lines on the left thigh.
Shading should take care of that harness strap in the finished project I'd think.  Different textures and lighting will make it easy to distinguish between the harness and the weapon.
Or you can always work it in as a tactical sling, those are better anyway.  I think it looks great though.

*sidles in* I wasn't gone. Nope, not me.

I gotta say, your figurative work just keeps getting better and better. Your people really look like they have weight to them, which can be hard to convey.

The trick's to pretend like you know what you're doing. Everything else falls into place after that.

...Except sharp edges when painting. I may need to pick your brain about that.
