My kid picked the movie tonight.  Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.  Not as horrible (etc.) as it could have been, but not my favorite of the year.

Saw "Kingsman" a few days ago. The key to it is to not expect too much. It ain't highbrow, but I certainly enjoyed it. The fireworks were really amusing, but I think a few folks in the theater were cringing at that point.

Watched both John Wick and Lucy.  Loved wick.  Thought Lucy was weird.

One of my favorite animated movies. Jane Lynch was *perfect* for her role. Alan Tudyk was a nice surprise as King Candy.

Oh, I caught a goodly number of them. I'm an arcade gamer from the 80s.

I just found out about a series that definitely seems as if it has the potential to do some terrific storytelling, and it's streaming on Netflix. It's called "Black Mirror," produced in the U.K.

Can anyone remember seeing any adverts for "Birdman"?  Anyone seen it?

I'd like to know to find out how in the heck it beat out the highest grossing film in years (American Sniper) for several Oscars..

I saw Interstellar finally.

A very good movie. And I love the different environments they created for the planets although the entire idea of the stellar system there was strange. I would love to hear input from someone more familiar with astonomy than I am if his is even remotely possible.

There's a thread about the movie further back in the "Off Topic" section you can search for. There were at least a couple articles linked in that thread.

Highest-grossing doesn't always equal best quality. I'm not saying that's the case for either movie, as I haven't seen either of them.

Because it was freaking brilliant. Keaton was at the top of his craft, and the rest of that cast was solid.  Well acted, well written, funny, and looked to be shot in a single take.  The cinematography of pulling that off in this film is astounding.

Add in the politics of the Academy, and Sniper had little chance. Normally I would complain about that, but truly?  Birdman was better in almost every way. Hard to argue the choice.

When the heck did it hit the Theaters?  I don't even remember seeing any TV adverts for it last year, let alone any for it's imminent DVD release...

As for me, cause of chatter on an ADND site about films we like but were generally panned, i have decided to get a trio of older ones from my library..  The Shadow with Alec baldwin, The Phantom with Billy Zane, and Master of the Universe with Lundgren.

I just watched "Scintilla".

For "Alien" fans. Was also similar (but different) to "Paragraf 78". A good watch, like the other two.

Highest-grossing doesn't always equal best quality.

As demonstrated by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which set box office records despite having no identifiable plot.

I saw it here in Stumptown at a Cinetopia in...November?  Yeah, before Thanksgiving.  It is out in a wider release again now, off the buzz.  I heartily suggest it.
