The Wrath of Khan later tonight.   During the end of which I cried manly tears before Nemoy passed. This will be worse.

Close friends, a bottle of single malt Irish and The Wrath of Khan.   It is a wake, of a sort.

Started off watching "Space Battleship Yamato" (the live-action 2010 release), but decided I wanted something a bit darker, and changed over to "Space Pirate Captain Harlock" (the 2013 CGI movie). Great story, beautiful graphics, and relatively minimal fanservice (IMO). Enjoyed it as much as I did the first time.

Just came back from the Theater and finally saw Jupiter Ascending.  I ver much liked the film, and REALLY want a pair of those damn boots!

I loved that 'mech suit' like fighter.  And did anyone get a vibe of the 'mine field' from Star quest, when the ship released that barricade thinggy?

Rewatched Patriot's game last night, and still love it!  IMO it was the best of the 4 Jack ryan focused movies.

I hope that's sarcasm - because they really mangled the book to get the movie.

The only one I liked was Hunt for Red October.   Because Baldwin was the one who really got the huge arrogance under all of Ryan's intelligence for me.  *shrug* Ford was too old and looked befuddled to me, and Ben Affleck was too Ben Affleck.

To each his own.

Yup.  C&PD was imo a little TOO politically linked.

Anyhoo..  I have 3 movies awaiting me at the local library.  Mockingjay part 1, The Judge, and Battlestar galactica 1980!  YES i am going to give that a rewatch..

The only one I feel stands out  slightly is the newest one. Lacks that something to me.

C&PD was a political book, if you recall. I'd go a bit more in-depth, but don't particularly want to creep close to Rule 4.

I'm watching the four Pirates of the Caribbean movies now. Just finished off the first and starting on the second. I may just call it quits though and put on Dune.

Netflix apparently just added Tank Girl to its line up.

It's like watching a snowplow crashing into a school bus- it's horrific and scarring your brain but at the same time you can't make yourself look away.

Especially since it was supposed to be a reboot, but seemed more like a modern based film, than one where Ryan was early in his career.

I can!
Of Lori Petty's films, the only ones i liked were
Caddalac man, Point break, League of their own and In the army now

Oy, I need to amend my earlier statements; for some reason, I was thinking of "The Sum of All Fears" when discussing "Clear and Present Danger." "Sum of All Fears" is the one they really butchered from the book. My apologies.

I'm watching the BBC's Sherlock movies from a few years back. I don't know why I've never took the time to watch them before now. They are excellent.  The second season is substantially better than the first.  Its also nice to see Khan and Bilbo when they were younger. All the little Easter eggs scattered every where is a nice little treat for the fans of the books. Highly recommended.

Saw The Judge last night, along with Mockingjay part 1.
Mocking jay was good, but not as good as catching fire or the first hunger games was.
The judge was good even though it lacked anything 'eye catching (violence etc).  But why is it in all these "Person comes home" type movies, the family is always dysfunctional?

Because pretty much any family has some degree of dysfunction in it. Also, it's a drama - wouldn't be much of a plot if the person came home with minimal fuss. There's also typically a reason the person went that far from home. My wife and I both really liked "The Judge."

Because if everyone behaved like rational adults, it would be a really short movie.

Which one?  I remember watching the original (fully animated darn it!) film/ova before decades came by the multiple of slight questionable quality CGI films came out.

I've never been happy on how the property was handled, the original film (i didn't have translation but read the manga.) was arguably confusing, but basis what was going on was understandable. Author seems to dropped out of lime light from any his properties now...

The one from 2004.
And later that day, Alpha, which I like very much (gives a load of ideas on different approach to post-Succession-War campaigns  where main fighting is with remains of war, not other humans. Automatic sentries killing people, sophisticated mines waiting for the prey etc...
