New Syrtis [FSNS] - Rear Admiral Harwood has reported successfully intercepting yet another Taurian suply convoy as it attempted to resupply the Concordat troops still maintaining a foothold on Electra in the Pleiades Cluster. 
Last month Admiral Harwood's Hydra Assault Squadron caught a flotilla of Concordat military transports attempting to sneak in from one of the system's many pirate points. After a short but spirited engagement led by the Admiral's flagship, the Fortress-Class Ajax, the interlopers were driven off with two DropShips and seven fighters destroyed and a third DropShip crippled. The Hydras lost three fighters, but two of the pilots were later recovered.   
Most disturbing is the report that the marines from Ajax discovered two nuclear devices aboard the crippled TCS Jamestown. The Taurian Concordat holds the dubious distinction of being the only government to refuse to sign the Ares Conventions. The Word of Blake's willingness to use weapons of mass destruction, combined with the desperate situation the Pleiades invaders now face, may have persuaded the Concordat to unleash its nuclear arsenal on the battlfield for the first time in almost three centuries. 
Duke Hasek has yet to comment on this disturbing development, but mercenary troops currently involved in holding off the Taurian threat have called for any Taurian force that dares unleash such weapons to be declared war criminals. 
This is the third time Admiral Harwood's Hydra Assault Squadron has encountered Taurian ships since assuming station in the Pleiades Cluster earlier this year. The Hydra's parent unit, the Medusans, are a mercenary DropShip force under contract to March Lord Hasek since 3061. The Basilisk Squadron - the Medusans' second assault DropShip squadron - is expected to relieve Harwood's command in the new year.

Orestes [INN] - Earlier this month, the CSS Bordeaux penetrated the Word of Blake cordon around beseiged Tukayid. Demonstrating great skill and courage, Precentor Forrest Cole, commander of the Bordeaux, successfully lured both of the Blakist WarShips in the Tukayid system out of their position close to the planet. Using his frigate's superior acceleration, Cole exploited the narrow window of opportunity thus created, landing an expeditionary force on Tukayid despite tenacious opposition from the Blakists' remaining aerospace assets. These forces, comprised of elements from the Com Guards' 104th Division, subsequently extracted Primus Mori and several senior Com Guards personnel, who had been trapped onworld under heavy enemy fire for more than six months.   
Though dogged by Blakist naval and aerospace forces all the way to a pirate jump point, the Bordeaux successfully escaped to Orestes. Making planetfall last week, Primus Mori was full of praise for "the heroic efforts of the Com Guards in stemming the evil tide unleashed upon the Inner Sphere." Meanwhile, Com Guards officials report that while the Bordeaux suffered only superficial damage, she inflicted "heavy damage" on the Blakist forces she encountered.   
First Precentor Gavin Dow spoke at length of his joy at Primus Mori's survival. "I cannot sufficiently express my gratitude to Anastasias Focht for masterminding the operation that returned our beloved Primus to us. Were it not for the foresight of our former Precentor Martial, I would probably have been charged with the burden of leading ComStar through this current crisis."

Ares [CNA] - Despite boasts to the contrary from all levels of the Davion government, the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces have halted the Federated Suns' invasion and are destroying the enemy everywhere they are encountered.   
The invasion, begun just over a month ago, initially targeted worlds in the St. Ives Commonality. George Hasek, Duke of New Syrtis and leader of the Davion military forces along our border with the Federated Suns, justified this illegal and immoral action as military aid to an "independent" St. Ives - an onslaught that killed, injured and left homeless countless thousands - our own glorious military responded swiftly and lethally. Staging counterattacks against the Davion troops in conjunction with true patriots on the beseiged worlds, our military stunned the enemy, costing them their tenuous grasp on five worlds and forcing them to retreat to temporary fortifications they had constructed on six more, including St. Ives and Warlock.   
Already Strategic Military Director Talon Zahn is moving additional forces into the St. Ives Commonality and along the Federated Suns border to deal with what little opposition remains. Reliable sources on the few worlds still beset by the Davion blight report that enemy troops are surrendering wholesale, and those that do not stand down remain bottled up in their bases while Capellan citizens surround them and continually subject them to sniper and bomb attacks.

This year the winter season just got two more events added. With two GSF weddings taking place that are big deals all on their own and our normal list of events we will have a very full season.

Hilo TV3
This winter season will be one of the biggest in a long time. Not only will we have the normal events but with the GSF having the Commander getting married and Shuyona Ichizoku Sagai hosting the wedding of two members of the Ironborn this will be one for the books.

HBC News
We have found out that added to this winter’s fun will be two weddings involving the GSF. First up will be the GSF’s commander getting married at Fenikkusu jiin in Yousai. This one will have all the pomp that only can happen at the largest jiin on planet. This will have all the major players on world and will be something to see. Next up will be the wedding of one of our local GSF commands people. The Ironborn will see two of its members married at Sagai Shiro, with Shuyona Ichizoku Sagai acting as host. This will be something all on its own.

All the mover and shakers will be running full tilt this season. Now added two GSF weddings and all the normal events the markets will be rolling.

Looks like the GSF it looking to try and up-stage Nijero’s winter season. And before I forget this is here for your group.” The officer hands over a data pad. “The first part of your group asked that it be given to you when you got here.”
“Once more thank you very much.” He joins his group reading the pad as he walks over. “OK so they have a place to keep all the toys until we get settled in. I will go to this place they call The Enclave and setup a place for all of us to stay and to store the equipment.” Looking to one of the group. “I will call Benjamin after I find the others. We have places to stay and store our gear in the Enclave. Oscar set it up when he landed. You will take the others to get settled in after everyone has finished the check in.”

Kapten Bjornsen stands in front of a small room, a map on the wall behind him, with two towns circled. "These are the cities of Bridges and Fune. A convoy between the two was just attacked. We have confirmation of Mechs and Vehicles among the attackers. Seeing as this may turn into a running battle, I'm sending some of our more mobile assets... you. I'm going along, but I don't expect to get involved in the shooting unless I have to. Most of you have worked with me before. If you haven't now's your chance. I know we don't have tremendous firepower, but If we can get the attackers off the convoy and onto us, I'll consider that a mission win. I want to see all of your troopers, crewmen and yourselves come back alive. Mech and tanks are replaceable. Lives are not. Dismissed."

IC: Upon learning of the birth of the Saganami Heir, Quartermaster Quist will commission, in his commander's name, a set of stuffed animals to be delivered to the Saganami family, along with two bottles of the finest Mead his unit could muster. The stuffed animals will be the size of an adult hand, and they will include a dragon, a crane, a frog, and a cat. The mead will be addressed to the Parents, and the stuffies will be addressed to the baby. They will each be presented in boxes. The boxes for the Governor and her spouse will be made of Old Japanese Cedar polished and stained a deep red color, with gold embossment of the coat of arms of the Saganami household. The Box for the child's toys will be made of Japanese Elm wood stained a deep red, with the same gold embossment of the other boxes. The three boxes will have silken linings holding the shapes of the gifts within.

Underneath the silken linings will be a single rune engraved in each box. The box for the child will have the rune Uruz. This represents strength, untamed potential, and courage. The rune for the father's box will be Sowilo which represents Wholeness, health, cleansing and honor. The one for the Governor will have the rune Othala, which represents Heritage, Ancestry and Experience.


Along with the gifts, there will be a handmade scroll using Japanese calligraphy to wish the newborn a happy and healthy life with many blessings. This will be signed by Kapten Bjornsen. Once these gifts are commissioned, Quist will turn his attention to the tasks of running the unit's day to day operations, since the C.O. and X.O. are off on missions.

On first glance a plain ordinary silver box will be delivered as a gift for the newborn. Upon close inspection said box is actually origami folded battlemech armor finely embossed with the family mon and the child's name. Maria felt the rhythmic crunch of the Phoenix Hawk's footfalls through her neurohelmet like the feel of an old friend returning after many years apart.  To have lived in the saddle of a 'Mech for so long, then to have it all taken away from her years ago, now to have it returned was euphoric, almost transcendent.  It felt good to be truly alive again.

"How does she feel, Mari?"  Came Julia's voice over the radio.

"Like the day I lost my virginity all over again, Jules."  She replied. "Feels like I'm 18 years old and horny as hell."

"Umm, too much information there, cousin." Said Julia.

"Sorry."  Maria replied.  "It just feels so good to have my second skin back and fully operational."

"It's not quite fully operational."  Julia countered.  "I still have some armor to patch up on her and then she'll be ready for you.  By the way, have you thought of a name for her yet?"

"I have a few ideas."  Maria answered.  "Once you've gotten her pristine again, I'll let you know.  I also have a paint scheme picked out that I figure little Euron won't like, since it's not his usual, black, silver and gold.  I'll tell you about it later.  Right now, I just wanna go shoot something."

"How about me?"  Came a new voice as a familiar Anubis strode into view.  "That is if you can keep up with me, old woman."

Isolde hopped off the VTOL in front of the base camp of Kiah's Hammers, transfer papers in hand.  The gates were tall and intimidating.  There was a lot of activity. Probably getting ready for the big Viking wedding for the boss lady, she thought as she approached.  She was met at the gate by a hulking Elemental.  A massive specimen, well over seven feet tall, his muscles straining against his uniform.  He made the purple-haired 19 year old feel very, very small.

"Can I help you?"  The Elemental asked.

Shaking her head and clearing her throat, Isolde held out her papers.  "Per the orders of Colonel Greyjoy of the Ironborn, I am to be transferred here for the next 4 months to train with the Hammers.  My name is Isolde Botley."  She was thankful she remembered not to use contractions around the Clanners.  They hated that.

The Elemental looked over her papers, then nodded.  "Your transfer statement appears to be in order, Isolde."  He said, pointedly omitting her last name.  "My name is Archamus.  I will bring you to my Khan.  Follow me."

Picking up her bags, Isolde followed Archamus, hoping that she wasn't going to hate this assignment.

Aeron Greyjoy looked out over the sea cliffs and nodded.  The Chaplain of the Ironborn and Euron's elder brother had asked to see the place his niece, Asha and Tristifer Botley were to be wed.  Fuka had agreed to accompany him to the spot and now marveled at the view from the cliffs that overlooked the ocean.  She hadn't seen this particular vista, but now she considered it for where she'd like to have her own wedding, when she found the right person.  She knew Isolde had designs on that, but that wasn't what she wanted.  She liked Isolde, but the difference in their ages (her being 27 to Isolde's 19) as well as the friendship she had with both Maria-sama and her nee-san, Julia, made the idea feel somewhat...incestuous.  She had tried a few times to let Isolde down, but that only seemed to make the younger woman more emboldened.

"Something wrong, Miss Hiyami?"  Aeron called out.

"Huh?" Fuka snapped back to reality.  "Oh, nothing, Greyjoy-sama.  I was just impressed with the view."

Aeron nodded.  "It is tradition that those of the Ironborn, particularly the Greyjoy family to be married close the sea.  Our ancestors were sailors, some even pirates.  They all knew the importance of the sea.  By the way, we should sample the waters here."

"Why?"  Fuka inquired.  "Is there some significance?"

"When the bride and groom are married, they are anointed with salt and iron."  Aeron explained.  "Usually that means pouring sea water on them and having them kiss an iron dagger.  I need to sample the sea water here to use in the ceremony.  Come, Suzaku."

They went down to the shore line.  Fuka seemed perplexed as to why the old man had to wade out into the sea, but he'd seemed adamant that she follow him.  Once they'd gone a few meters out, Aeron faced her.  "Now then,"  He said, it's time I told you the other reason we're out here."

Fuka quirked an eyebrow.  "Oh?  What do you mean, Greyjoy-sama?"

Aeron sighed.  "Forgive me, child."  He then grabbed her and pushed her beneath the water. 

Fuka was shocked as she flailed under the waves.  Why was he doing this?  Had she angered the Colonel somehow?  Had she done something wrong?  As her breath was forced from her lungs, she grabbed at the hands that were holding her under.  Aeron was saying something to her, but she couldn't make it out, something about...baptizing?  She didn't have long to contemplate it, as she felt herself slipping away.  As she drowned, she thought of her parents, of nee-san, of the Colonel and why he'd let this happen to her.

Fuka awoke, coughing up water.  Aeron was compressing her chest, forcing the foul-tasting water out of her lungs.

"Welcome back, Miss Hiyami."  Aeron spoke only to be punched in the face by an angry Fuka, who grabbed a rock off the ground to defend yourself.

"Ittai nanda?!"(What the hell)  She screamed in Japanese.  "Naze anata wa watashi wo obore saseyo yo to shi ta no desu ka?!" (Why did you try to drown me)

"I did drown you."  Aeron admitted.  "And I just brought you back, Fuka-san.  If I'd wanted you dead, you would be."

"But why did you do it?!"  Fuka was still adamant for an explanation.

"To initiate you."  Aeron explained.  "Since you have entered battle as a member of the Ironborn, the Colonel believed it was time you were subjected to The Drowning.  It is our final acceptance of an aspirant into the Ironborn.  Congratulations, Miss Hiyami, you are now one of us."

Fuka, still angry, pointed at Aeron.  "You-you could've warned me!"

"That would've defeated the purpose."  Aeron replied.  "I have performed The Drowning many times, with all the surviving members of the Greyjoy family once they came of age.  Even those who have married into our house have been subjected to it.  I have even done the same to members of the other Ironborn families.  None of them ever knew in advance.  Jurgen Blacktyde took three or four of us to force him under.  He broke Victarion's arm that day, and none of us left unscathed."

Fuka was still confused.  "But why do it at all?"

"Do you think our motto is just pretty words."  Aeron frowned.  ""What is dead may never die!"  When we say it, we mean it literally.  All those who undergo The Drowning are killed.  Our dead bodies are baptized by the sea.  Then we are reborn, the experience hardening us, making us stronger.  Others cannot understand this because they have never died before.  But now, you have died, Miss Hiyami, no, Fuka, and have now risen again, harder and stronger."

At that, Fuka understood.  Before this, she'd never actually faced death, never knew what it was like to meet her end.  The fact that all of the Ironborn had known what it was like to die by this ordeal made her feel more a part of them than before.

"Has, has nee-san gone through this?"  She asked.

"She has."  Aeron nodded.  "As have Maria and Tristan.  Isolde has not, though her time is coming."  He walked toward Fuka, who'd dropped the rock and stood up, still breathing heavy, but calm again.

"I baptize you with salt and steel, Fuka Suzaku Hiyami."  He touched her forehead with his still wet fingers, then touched her with the metal crucifix he wore around his neck.  "I welcome you into the ranks of the Ironborn, you who were dead, but have risen again."

Fuka accepted her new name and replied.  "What is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger,"  She added one further line, prompting a nod of assent from Aeron.  "...higher and brighter!"

Lorren Botley stood in Euron's office, his list of candidates in hand.  The Colonel was behind his desk, waiting.

"Well, Lance Captain," Euron asked.  "Do you know who's going to fill out your garrison unit?"

"I do, Colonel."  Lorren replied.  "For our armor unit, I want the Striker for the long-range firepower.  For infantry support, I want Avi and Delta Platoon in theirGoblin.  They have the advanced training in base security."

"Done."  Euron nodded.  "And what's your free choice?"

Lorren looked over the list and made his selection.  "Sergeant Major Codd and the AC/10 Po.  I imagine he's sick of being cooped up here with nothing to do."

"You're probably right."  Euron smiled.  "Just remember, now that you've chosen, you're stuck with those particular forces for the next few months until new units can be rotated out to you.  Are you sure these are the guys and gals you want?"

"I'm sure."  Lorren nodded.

"Then good hunting."  Said Euron.  "You ship out tomorrow.  Better say goodbye to Tristifer, since you may not be available for the wedding."

Lorren laughed.  "Just you watch anybody try to stop me from being there."

"Dismissed."  Euron saluted.  Lorren returned the gesture and left the office.

"yes. we are getting very good at scrambling" he crosses and hands her the glass then steps back and lifts his glass lightly clinking it to kiah's it a friendly toast. "the wedding particulars are all in place as well, security, crowd control, etc etc. your not doing it by halves that for sure."

"Thank the gods i found the love of my life and will not have to go though this ever again, the stress of planning the wedding event with that amazing wedding planner we hired was just tolerable. Now that all the planning is over i find i am relaxing and enjoying the process much more." Kiah laughs at the look on Ben's face. "just wait when you find the right someone you will understand."

As I seem to have been appointed to be the spokesperson for the group, we were wondering if we could obtain you and your fiancée’s permission to attend. As there are about a hundred of us wishing to attend, "crashing" it discreetly would be a real challenge, please laugh this is meant as joke. Most of us are former instructors, students, or administers of a small Lyran technical college. A few individuals in our group are veterans and/or mercenaries awaiting instructions or clearance from the government on formal positions.

Isolde hopped off the VTOL in front of the base camp of Kiah's Hammers, transfer papers in hand.  The gates were tall and intimidating.  There was a lot of activity. Probably getting ready for the big Viking wedding for the boss lady, she thought as she approached.  She was met at the gate by a hulking Elemental.  A massive specimen, well over seven feet tall, his muscles straining against his uniform.  He made the purple-haired 19 year old feel very, very small.

"Can I help you?"  The Elemental asked.

Shaking her head and clearing her throat, Isolde held out her papers.  "Per the orders of Colonel Greyjoy of the Ironborn, I am to be transferred here for the next 4 months to train with the Hammers.  My name is Isolde Botley."  She was thankful she remembered not to use contractions around the Clanners.  They hated that.

The Elemental looked over her papers, then nodded.  "Your transfer statement appears to be in order, Isolde."  He said, pointedly omitting her last name.  "My name is Archamus.  I will bring you to my Khan.  Follow me."

Picking up her bags, Isolde followed Archamus, hoping that she wasn't going to hate this assignment.

The escort brings you to a large rectangular building, you walk though large double doors in the middle of the side wall, there is a large fire pit in front of you and the space is filled with tables and it appears you have arrived in the middle of dinner.  pipes and flutes are being played  somewhere and you feel like you may have stepped back in time.

"leave your bags here" your escort motions to a side table, waits for you to put your things down then leads you up the center isle. you see a one step raised platform where Kiah and her ranking officers are sitting and eating. the room falls silent as Kiah looks up and watches you approach. "stay here." the clansmen says when you are about 5 feet from the high table, he walks forward and gives your personnel package to Kiah.

Kiah puts down the ornate goblet she was drinking from and reviews your papers then hands them to the man sitting next to her and raises to her feet.

"welcome Isolde Botley, i hope that your stay with us will be fruitful for all concerned." Kiah waves her hand to a table to the right just down from the dais. "please sit and join us in this eve meal. we eat communally here but the great hall is always opened so feel free to come here if you need drink or food. After the meal you will be shown to the barracks that will be yours for your time here and will be given your duty roster." Kiah waits until you move to the table she indicated and then she picks up her goblet. "everyone welcome Isolde Botley to our company, while she is here she is one of us, hopefully she will form bonds and friendships that will strengthen all of us and her training here will benefit her growth."

Kiah raises her goblet as all in the hall do so as well and Isolde Botley is thundered out by all and everyone drinks.  your passed dishes of food that smells amazing and your goblet is filled with a rich warm cider. the table you are at is two down from the platform Kiah is on and you realize you are among others of your own age as well as two female clanswomen. when Kiah sits conversation and the meal resume.

"I'm Ziva, i pilot the hammers Javelin, after dinner ill show you to your bunk, your in the same barracks as i am. it is set up with a common area and small galley kitchen for general use and your bunk is across form mine. the rule is if you don't want to be disturbed you close your curtains. you will have a space that is about 4 by 6 , storage is under and above your bunk." Ziva nods toward your plate. "eat up your going to want to get settled and rest since we have to be up at 5 for pt."

Kiah's security will confirm these individuals are who they say they are with the governors offices and obtains a list of the names of the "about a hundred of us" mentioned

as long as none are a security risk security will recommend that they be allowed to attend as they are from  Lyran.

revised invitations will be sent for them (they will be for the person only plus one) along with a note from Kiah.

Yasha Saganami Civics Scholarship
 For Immediate Release

Endowment of new Civics Scholarship announced

Dr. Kira Musashi, Kiah Rosen Franks, and Neville Rhodes today announced the endowment of a new scholarship for Nejiro students.

Created in honor of Yasha Saganami, first born child and heir to Governor Meiyo Saganami of Nejiro, the Yasha Saganami Civics Scholarship supports enrollment in a collegiate-level program on Nejiro at an approved university or similar vocational institution. The scholarship covers tuition, instructional material, housing and medical care in addition to a monthly stipend for living expenses for up to an 8-year period, based on satisfactory academic achievement.  Applicants must be Nejiro nationals under the age of 30.

Applications will be accepted from February 1st through April 30th, 3069 to choose the first recipient of this Scholarship for the commencement of study in September 3069.  The initial three recipients will not be restricted to those entering collegiate education, but may be granted to those already enrolled in a course of study provided other requirements are met. 

This fellowship will be administered by Miyazawa, Vasquez, & Saganami of Hilo, Attorneys at Law.
