I'm already aware that all of the other Macross series are coming to Disney+.  (With the exception for the original?)

Appparently, the original and DYRL? will not be coming to Disney+.

From what I hear most places are getting Delta (and its movies), then Frontier (and its movies) and then 7 (and its movies and OVA’s). Haven’t heard anything about Flashback 2012 (would assume that falls into the original series and DYRL?), nor Zero.

Just wish they would get to the States. I never did watch the final episode of Delta and haven’t seen the movies for either it or Frontier.

I'm excited to finally see 7 and Delta, having watched Frontier and Zero a while back.  But what I mainly want is a good release of the Plus OVAs...

My wish is to get everything on dvd/blu-ray.

I already have the original series, Zero, Flashback 2012, Plus (OVA and movie edition), 7, 7 The Galaxy is Calling Me! And Dynamite 7 on dvd. I still need DYRL?, Frontier and movies and Delta and movies.

That we're all invited to import the Japanese BD at exhorbitant Japanese domestic prices because there are English subs of unknown quality? That's not much of a development.....

Well, if you don't want to support Disney or HG, it's an option.

Watching The Boy and the Heron.

So far Studio Ghibli’s track record continues.

Tried watching Afro Samurai for the first time.  Had to shut it off after five minutes.  The whole "dark characters on dark backgrounds with everything zoomed in so far that every action is a motion blur" was causing me serious eye strain.

Don't think the series needed a live action, but I think we can all understand why people will want to see it.

More importantly, the mention of season two of the anime below it! :D

So I was wondering if this is a real trend or I'm just imagining things: cooking has long been a big thing in anime, but it seems to me that in the 00s you'd see a lot of depictions of characters making not just Japanese foods but also a variety of other nationalities' dishes.  While today it seems to be purely just Japanese cooking.

I see Japanese cooking more for slice of life or isekai types of series, while European or foreign cuisine seems to be more for competition or dramatic points of a series, from the smattering of manga I've read.  I do like fantasy cooking series that make something up that's a blend of cuisines, yet not immediately meant to be a specific type.

From the manga side (and back then pretty much all anime were manga-based) there actually wasn't that much of that.

- Cooking Master Boy was entirely set in China.
- Yakitate Ja-Pan and a few others (like Addicted to Curry, which never got an anime) were fairly focused on one subject matter, even if they occasionally branched out internationally within that subject matter.
- There were a bunch of shojo manga at the time which heavily went into a "patisserie" theme to the point where that's pretty much its own genre.
- On purely the manga side there was also a good number of Izakaya-themed (very japanese cuisine) manga at the time, as the sort of seinen variant to the pastry stuff. Some of these (like "Bartender") are seeing fairly late anime adaptions now.

Arguably the main work at the time that did the "searching international cuisine" thing (and was very successful at it) was Toriko. Which was more of a typical shounen fighting anime with food themes added throughout for background.

Wasnt entirely sure where to put this, but it mostly deals with the JP iterations of the Franchise. And it's animated by Trigger so...Anime thread it is.

Transformers recently had its 40th anniversary this year, first existing under that name (As opposed to Diaclone) in 1984. In commemoration of that, Studio Trigger made an animated video to celebration. Bump of Chicken is playing the song in the background (which explains why we got a Bump of Chicken Prime if you've been following the toy releases at all)

You'll recognize some old favorites in this thing.

Prolific voice actress Emi Shinohara passed away on September 8, 2024, at the age of 61. She is survived by her husband, actor Hiroshi Watari. The news was announced by her agency, 81 Produce. Her illness was not made public.

Shinohara (real name Watanabe) was born August 8, 1963, in Nagano Prefecture. She made her debut in 1984’s DREAM HUNTER REM.

Her breakout role came in 1986 as B-ko in the wildly popular OVA series, PROJECT A-KO.

She is best remembered for her role as Sailor Jupiter in the decades-long franchise SAILOR MOON.

She was the Japanese voice of April O’Neil in original 1987 TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES cartoon, as well the dubs of the early live action films.

As part of the CARDCAPTOR SAKURA franchise, she played Kaho Mizuki.

Emi has voiced the title character Naruto’s mother, Kushina Uzumaki, in NARUTO: SHIPPUDEN.

She also voiced many of the same roles, along with others, in numerous video games.

Recent roles include the part of Komi's aunt, Ryouko Komi, in Netflix’s KOMI CAN’T COMMUNICATE, and Motoko Izumi, mother to lead Yuu, in SHIKIMORI’S NOT JUST A CUTIE.

The legendary anime film, NINJA SCROLL, is currently touring America as part of a 30th anniversary celebration. Hear her voice the female lead, Kagero, and say “good bye” to this amazing talent.

IMDb lists a jaw-dropping 166 credits in her 40-year career. Other anime roles included work such as VAMPIRE PRINCESS MIYU (1988), DRAGON WARRIOR, A.D. POLICE FILES, CYBER CITY OEDO 808, DOOMED MEGALOPOLIS, TOKYO BABYLON, X, POKEMON, SABER MARIONETTE J AGAIN, BURN-UP EXCESS, PERFECT BLUE, DETECTIVE CONAN, THE BIG O, TENCHI MUYO! RYO-OHKI, NARUTO: SHIPPUDEN, CLAYMORE, GOLGO 13 (2008), A CERTAIN MAGICAL INDEX & RAILGUN, BanG DREAM.

I've been enjoying the manga and liked the anime as well.  I just wish the human cast wasn't mostly junior high school.  It just feels too young from every angle you can look at it.  High school age would have made so much more sense.

I want to like it, but I've seen it already.  I'm more interested in the music honestly, not sure if it'll be as likable as the original songs.

Also some of the voices have that old age edge to them, that is noticeable, if you are used to the voice.

On the upside, this trailer doesn't look like a frame for frame redraw of the original.  There's a new style now.
