Riga I Frigate Hidden Calculations
« on: 19 January 2025, 18:49:42 »
Originally the THS (later SLS) Prague. Retired from Star League service in the late 2740s, then sold to the Rim Worlds Republic and later returned to Star League service (IE captured) during the Amaris war. Though she was intact enough to accompany the exodus, the Prague was deemed surplus to requirements and mothballed once the Exodus fleet had reached the Pentagon worlds.

And there she stayed, forgotten by the clans, until the Society came across her. In addition to repairing the ship and refitting it with modern weapons and armor, the Society also equipped their new frigate as a mobile research station able to transport over two thousand scientists, assistants, and test subjects. Unlike other ships the society and their bandit caste allies managed to recover, the newly christened Hidden Calculations was never risked in battle against the clans, instead operating as a safe haven and mobile command post before slipping out of the Kerensky cluster once the war was lost. Even if the clans knew she existed in the first place, they certainly don't know where she might have gone since.

Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

Although they are only a small mass amount you don't need field kitchens if the passengers have berthing as it is already part of the 'shared cost' of that requirement. Additionally there is a certain amount of infirmary space that can provide medical care to non-passengers that I think is in the Warship calculation within SO.

That said I find this amusing and it could certainly be an excellent astro-survey vessel, station tender, and colony starter.

I'm treating the extra field kitchens and MASH facilities as side affects of all the research labs packed aboard the ship.

I proposed a fan rule for Field Kitchens in ships: https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,79138.0.html

Field Kitchens on units that already have kitchens being fine dining would be cool.

Similarly, MASH on units that already have medical facilities could be dedicated surgery suites or other advanced facilities.

great so we have a bunch of freaks running in an advance Lab ship
